Secret Tina Turner song unearthed after 40 years – and it sends shivers down the spine

Hot For You Baby – which was orignally intended to be on her 1984 Private Dancer album – is being released.

The single is being put out as part of an anniversary edition of that solo breakthrough album, which was nominated for album of the year at the 1985 Grammys and featured the Grammy-winning songs What’s Love Got To Do With It and Better Be Good To Me.

The re-release also has other previously unreleased tracks, live performances and footage, including a 55-minute Private Dancer Tour show, with the Queen of Rock n’Roll filmed at Birmingham’s NEC across two nights in March 1985.

Directed by the music video director David Mallet, it features British star David Bowie and Canadian singer Bryan Adams at the concert.

Turner, known for her soulful hits and a commanding stage presence, was a two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and won a total of 12 Grammy Awards.

A 1993 film, What’s Love Got To Do With It, dramatised her turbulent relationship with former husband Ike Turner, who was allegedly abusive along with her father, and earned Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett Oscar nods for playing the couple.

Turner was honoured with the prestigious lifetime achievement award in 2018 and three Grammy Hall of Fame awards for her hit songs.

In May 2023, she died aged 83 in Switzerland – where she lived with her second husband, music producer Erwin Bach – after a long illness.

Theatre production Tina: The Musical, depicting the late singer’s life on her journey from her humble beginnings into a rock ‘n roll star, began in the West End in 2018, and has continued to have performances in London.

Her anniversary record comes out on March 21.

The track will be heard on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show with Mark Goodier on Thursday.

When her distinctive vocal kicks in, it’s enough to send shivers down your spine.

“I’ve been sitting here for the last few hours, looking at you,” Tina sings, her raspy voice instantly recognizable.

With a thumping bass, and raunchy lyrics, you can see why the track was considered for Private Dancer, an album which captured the spirit of the 90s and went on to sell more than 10million copies.

“I’m hot for you baby, I want to love you all night long,” she squeals, ahead of an equally exuberant guitar solo.

Tina’s still Simply the Best.
