Remove limescale and soap stains from shower glass with 1 simple bathroom staple

Nothing is worse than cleaning your bathroom only to discover your shower screen is still spotty with stains that will not budge no matter how much you wipe the glass.

Shower screens often become covered in soap stains and limescale, a natural substance made out of minerals from water evaporating, which will stick and form a crust on a surface.

Limescale can be frustrating to clean as it will likely not budge with most cleaning products, but there is an “unconventional” way to get shower glass sparkling again.

Dominic Lees-Bell, a cleaning expert from Dretch, has shared that you can use items in your home, like toothpaste, to remove tough shower glass stains.

He said: “Toothpaste is another household item which is not just useful for its intended purpose. Not only can it give you a minty fresh taste. Giving a fresh appearance for your shower glass is another string in its bow.

“With a non-gel toothpaste you can remove set in stains, although it’s important to note that a cheap toothpaste is encouraged for this job. Keep the good stuff for your pearly whites.”

It may be strange, but non-gel toothpaste is abrasive, which means it can gently scrub limescale minerals and soap without scratching shower glass.

Toothpaste is incredibly effective as it is usually slightly alkaline, which means it can break down limescale and the fatty acids in soap quickly.

For best results, try to use a whitening toothpaste or one with baking soda in it, or simply look through your kitchen cupboard and use baking soda as it also works great in removing stains.

How to use toothpaste (or baking soda) to remove shower glass stains

All you need to do is squirt a little toothpaste on a damp sponge and wipe it over the stains.

For particularly tough stains, dab a little toothpaste on the shower clean and leave it alone for a few minutes to give the solution time to break down the stains.

Then, all you have to do is rinse the shower screen with warm water, and it should be clean again.

Alternatively, you can add three tablespoons of baking soda to a small bowl of warm water.

Mix the baking soda and water together until you have a paste-like consistency. Then add the solution to a sponge and clean the stains in a circular motion.

Rinse the shower screen with water, use a squeegee on it if you own one, and your shower screen should now be completely stain-free using just simple items around the home.
