Warning to anyone on O2 as service axed in January

O2 customers are being warned that the network is axing a key service this month.

The major mobile phone provider has confirmed it will remove its Pay-As-You-Go (PAYC) Mobile Broadband and iPad services at the end of January.

The Data SIMs allowed customers to choose from a variety of plans and to use mobile data to access the internet on their iPads.

It meant that customers could use the internet while out and about without needing access to broadband, and allowed them to choose what data allowance they wanted and how long for.

The mobile provider discontinued its PAYG Mobile broadband and iPad SIMs back in August last year, but those who had already purchased them had still been able to continue using them.

But O2 has now informed customers that the service will be ending on January 31, just months after it withdrew the SIMs from sale to new customers.

In an email to customers, O2 said: “We’re sorry to let you know that we’re removing our Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband & iPad services from our portfolio on 31 January 2025. You can continue to use your service until 31 January 2025, after which time your service shall cease.

“As you are a Pay As You Go customer, you’re able to leave your service at any time with no Early Termination Charges.”

“In order to obtain a refund for any data not used on your account, you’ll need to call O2 customer services on 0344 8090222 to provide your contact details so we can process your refund request.”

Anyone who bought a PAYG Mobile Broadband SIM can return it for a full refund and if you want a refund for any unused data on your account you can call O2 customer services on 0344 809 0222.

Customers who want to stay with the O2 network will need to switch to a pay monthly contracted data SIM plan instead.
