The underrated Spanish seaside city with ‘never-ending beaches’ but ha | Travel News | Travel

Spain, a destination loved by Brits, welcomed over 88.5 million international visitors last year, making it the second most visited country in the world.

This doesn’t come as a surprise as the gorgeous destination boasts so many things to do and stunning landscapes, while tourists are spoilt for choice when it comes to the beaches.

While many flock to popular cities like Barcelona, Madrid or Marbella, Spain has many hidden-gem spots that aren’t as famous internationally but just as incredible.

One place in particular is the gorgeous province of  Cadiz – found in the south of the country.

Being mostly surrounded by sea, the area around the city, called Costa de la Luz, boasts beaches that the Telegraph has described as “neverending” and that are often considered some of the best in the country.

Playa de la Barrosa stretches almost five miles.

Playa La Victoria and Playa de La Caleta are two other notable beaches, and visitors can also enjoy a number of watersports activities including sailing, scuba diving, windsurfing and jet skiing there.

As with its many aspects, what makes this destination a great escape is the contrast to the mass tourism on the Mediterranean coast. The area is the ideal place to enjoy a Spanish holiday without all the crowds.

According to the International Tourism Statistics for Andalucia, Spain, in 2023 the hidden gem destination welcomed 115,838 overnight international tourists in comparison to Marbella which saw 538,147.

As well as the many beaches Cadiz is full of rich history and gorgeous landmarks as it is home to one of the oldest cities in Western Europe.

Cadiz Cathedral combines baroque and neoclassical styles taking 116 years to complete. For decades, the Torre de Poniente tower which is part of the cathedral has been a popular tourist attraction and the top of the tower provides the most remarkable views of the surrounding area.
