Terrell Owens played the first eight seasons of his NFL career with the 49ers.
Owens has been tuning in to the 49ers’ undefeated start to the season, but wasn’t impressed with Mike Evans’ most recent performance against the Commanders on Monday Night Football. The 33-year-old was playing a rib and Achilles injury entering the matchup.
“We were watching the game. Mike was playing, Mike Evans, and I was like, ‘Look at his routes.’ I’m like, ‘I can do that. It’s not like he’s blazing speed,’” Owens said on his podcast.
“[Evans] just knows how to run routes, knows where to go, and then the quarterback can save you,” he continued. “Like, he was just catching some really average plays.”
49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir didn’t take kindly to the seemingly negative comments regarding Evans, San Francisco’s top receiver in 2026.
“Mannnn noo you cant. Mike 1 of 1 Stop it,” Lenoir wrote on his Instagram Stories.
Through six games this season, Evans has tallied 420 yards on 27 receptions with three touchdowns. The 49ers have yet to lose a game in 2026, and much of the offense’s success can be attributed to the electric pairing of quarterback Brock Purdy and Evans.
However, the veteran wideout won’t be available for the team’s Week 7 road matchup against the Falcons. It will be San Francisco’s first game without Evans.
