A Virginia toddler who wandered from home near a heavily forested area was found on Friday afternoon after a massive search involving the FBI, according to authorities.
Bridget Maeve Zeigler, 2, was found on Friday afternoon after local and federal investigators launched an all-out search for the youngster, including aviation and K9 resources, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook.
Officials provided no other details.
Zeigler was last seen just after 6 p.m. on Thursday after she walked away from her home wearing an orange dress, a blue coat, and white sneakers, according to the Virginia State Police.
She wandered off on foot near Hidden Valley Road in Cumberland County, a residential area bordering dense woods and nearby state forest land.
Police were notified of the tot’s disappearance within an hour, and a CODI alert, used to alert the public to missing or endangered children, was issued by Thursday evening, cops said in a statement.
Hunters in the area were also urged to check their trail cameras for sightings of Zeigler — described as a 2-foot -tall and 30-pound white female with short brown hair and blue eyes.
The circumstances surrounding Zeigler’s disappearance remain unknown. Authorities did not elaborate on whether the toddler needed a medical evaluation after spending the night alone.
The Cumberland Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Virginia State Police, and additional law enforcement agencies and fire and rescue agencies were all involved in the desperate search.
