The worst-case scenario for Giants free agent acquisition Calvin Austin III has been realized.
The favorite to be the Giants’ slot receiver for the upcoming season did indeed suffer a season-ending torn ACL during a serious knee injury on Tuesday.
Austin III signed a one-year $1.5 million contract with the Giants but will now head to season-ending IL after an impressive training camp.

Darnell Mooney, who signed a contract worth $10 million including incentives, could be among the favorites to take over the role, although he’s currently listed as the backup to play X receiver behind Malik Nabers.
Odell Beckham Jr. is the backup slot receiver according to the latest Giants depth chart.

The former superstar is on the roster bubble, but between Juju Smith-Schuster being cut and Austin III’s injury, Beckham Jr. could be moving closer to solidifying a role.
