If your oven’s glass door looks like a splatter painting from cooking the Christmas dinner and you haven’t got around to cleaning it, now is the perfect time.
According to Tom Jackson, cleaner and founder of Carpet Cleaners MCR, the best way to clean oven glass we would to use a professional oven-cleaning solution.
However, if you don’t have this and need a domestic product, The Pink Stuff is “great for cutting through the grime”.
This product isn’t just a favourite for amateurs; pros love The Pink Stuff too, renowned for blitzing through unsightly stains.
The makers of the cleaning solution boast of its “natural formulation” for this wonder paste on their site, assuring users of its “high performance” without the need to use harsh chemicals.
But if your grease resembles a modern art masterpiece, you’re going to want something with oomph.
For this, Tom nods towards a trusty silver scourer, which can tackle even the toughest of burnt-on bits that lighter cleaning can’t touch.
Put on rubber gloves, apply the cleaning paste and give it a good rub. Leave it on there for 10 to 15 minutes to get perfection, as Tom says: “It can be tempting, but don’t rub it off too soon. Let it work its magic.”
After letting your potion do its thing, grab a scourer, and some water, and scrub away. For the truly troublesome spots, use a sharp scraper to eliminate the grime.
After wiping away the product with a cloth and warm water, tackle any remaining stubborn spots with a scourer, but be gentle to avoid scratching the surface.
For those preferring eco-friendly solutions, Toby Schulz, CEO and co-founder of Maid2Match, suggests a more natural approach.
He advised: “Try and see if you can use a silicone or plastic scraper to remove any stuck-on grime from the oven glass. Lay some newspapers on the floor underneath to collect the debris for easier cleaning.”
To deal with “very stubborn stains and dirt”, Toby recommended creating a mixture of baking soda and water to form a paste. Apply this concoction with a soft sponge to the affected areas and let it sit for up to 20 minutes.
Once the time is up, homeowners can revisit the area with their scraper to lift off the loosened grime, or for an extra boost, spritz some white vinegar onto the surface for “additional cleaning power”.
