Two siblings drowned after they were swept away from their mother in a creek at an Alabama nature preserve, cops said.
A boy and a girl, who were between 7 and 11 years old, died after they were pulled underwater while they were with their mother at the Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson on Saturday afternoon, WBRC reported.
Two bystanders and a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy pulled the children out of the water and immediately performed CPR.
The brother and sister, whose names have not been released, were rushed to a local hospital and were later pronounced dead.
“We want to express our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss,” The Jefferson County Greenways community, which oversees the nature preserve, said in a statement.
“We also want to thank the first responders and emergency personnel for their tireless efforts during the response.”
The incident remains under investigation.
