Caitlin Clark skipped media after Fever loss — despite setting WNBA record

Caitlin Clark was not made available to speak to the media after Thursday night’s loss to the Golden State Valkyries, according to reports.

The star Indiana Fever guard had her lowest-scoring game of the season, tallying just 16 points and shooting 25 percent from the field.

However, she did become the fastest player to 500 assists in WNBA career.

Clark skipping her postgame media duties followed her speaking before the contest.

It has been a rough nine days for the guard.

Clark was held out of the Fever’s May 20 game against the Portland Fire at the last minute, with the timing drawing criticism since she had not been listed on the injury report.

The league warned the Fever, rather than penalize them.

Then, before Thursday night’s game, ESPN broadcaster Cari Champion called Caitlin Clark “entitled” on her “Flagrant and Funny” podcast.

“The more we get to catch these glimpses of Caitlin Clark, I’m like, ‘I don’t like you. I don’t like the way you behave on the court,’” Champion said. “And the league is positioning you to be its superstar because you are, and with leadership comes certain responsibility. And if you don’t want that responsibility, I understand that.”

Champion also believes that Clark receives favoritism from the league, including the late scratch last week.

“That type of blatant favoritism annoys the hell out of me,” Champion said. “I don’t know if this is her fault, because I think it might be unfair for me to say that this is her fault. But at the same time, it’s like, why is she getting this special treatment?

On Thursday night, Clark and the Fever lost to the Valkyries 90-88.

Clark had her worst performance of the season with scoring a team-high 16 points while shooting 3-12 from the field.

While Clark struggled in this game, her season has been good so far. She is averaging 22.5 points and 8.5 assists per game.

The Fever’s next game will be against the Portland Fire on Saturday.
