Horrifying moment packed Alcatraz ferry slams into San Francisco pier

This is the terrifying moment the ferry from San Francisco to Alcatraz smashed into a pier as it docked over the weekend.

A passenger recorded as the vessel crashed into Pier 31, knocking people off their feet and frightening others.

Luckily, there were no reported injuries. But some passengers were left traumatized by the experience.

“He’s like, ‘Mom, I thought this was going to be the best day, but this is just the worst day ever,’” Olivia Rios Acuña told ABC 7. She booked the cruise because of her son’s love of boats. After enjoying the ride on deck, the family prepared to dock.

“Next thing I know, I just heard a really loud noise and the whole boat shook,” she said.

She said the boat struck the pier multiple times, breaking windows and causing a panic on board. Some passengers even fell, and one woman tumbled down the staircase.

“I was terrified. I was like, what on earth is going on? And then I was like, okay, who on earth is driving this boat?” she said.

One woman thought the boat was going down. “For me, I was like, oh my god, we’re gonna sink. I’m not the best swimmer,” Alcocer said.

Passengers questioned the crew members’ experience and nonchalant nature after the traumatic event.

“The people that worked there were not making a big deal about it, but you could tell in their face that they were panicking,” she said.

“Is it your first day? That was my thought. Like, this is your first day. There’s no way, there’s no way,” Daniel Aburto added.

The woman who recorded the disaster said the event made her child cry.

“This guy’s like, ‘Have a great day. You guys sure had an exciting entry,’ or something like that,” she said. “I was like, exciting? More like traumatic. My kid’s still crying,” Rios Acuna said.

The boating company involved, Alcatraz City Cruises, said a mere “docking incident” happened on Sunday without providing any specifics.

“On Sunday evening, an Alcatraz City Cruises vessel was involved in a docking incident upon return to Pier 31, “a statement from the company to ABC 7 said.

“There are no currently reported injuries, and an investigation of the incident will be conducted to determine it cause. Any impacts to service will be provided as additional information becomes available.”
