Drivers in Southern California were left horrified after a viral video appeared to show a corpse falling out of the back of a mortuary transport van at a busy intersection in Bell Gardens.
The bizarre footage captured a white van stopped in the roadway after its rear doors somehow swung open, sending the body into the street during transport to a mortuary in the area.
As stunned onlookers watched, a man was seen lifting the lifeless body back into the van before shutting the rear doors, this time making sure they stayed secure.
The clip quickly exploded across social media, with many viewers blasting the incident as “unprofessional.”
One witness claimed the driver worked for Funeral Services Allen-English & Estrada.
But owner Chris Mendez told FOX11 the company does not typically handle its own body transportation.
“Most funeral homes, 90% … we don’t do our own transport so we hire transport companies,” Mendez said, citing manpower as the main reason.
He also said the now-viral footage is not recent and may be at least a couple of years old.
It remains unclear whether the video is even real.
Despite that uncertainty, Mendez said his business was flooded with calls after the clip spread online, even though he insists the van was not connected to his company.
He said he hopes people think twice before sharing viral content without verifying it first.
