Tyler Glasnow leaves Dodgers start early with low back pain

HOUSTON –– Tyler Glasnow recorded the 1,000th strikeout of his MLB career in the first inning on Wednesday afternoon.

He then exited the game with what the Dodgers can only hope isn’t the latest entry in his checked medical history.

As Glasnow was warming up before the bottom of the second inning, he appeared to feel something after one practice throw. He immediately grimaced, waved a trainer out to the mound, then left the game after a brief conversation.

According to the Dodgers, he was dealing with “low back pain.”

The full severity of the issue was not immediately known.

While Glasnow had gotten off to a strong start this season, entering Wednesday’s series finale against the Houston Astros with a 3-0 record and 2.56 ERA, injuries have been a career-long problem for the 32-year-old right-hander.

He has never made more than 22 starts in a campaign. Last year, he was limited to just 18 outings and less than 100 innings.

While Glasnow’s most severe injuries have been to his arm –– including a Tommy John procedure in 2021 –– his back has also been a recurring problem area in recent years.

He missed three weeks in 2024 with lower back tightness, and was scratched from a start in Baltimore last September after his back tightened up on him again.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
