AJ Dybantsa is still unsure about his NBA draft decision.
He’s still waiting for a conversation with the person closest to him.
“I haven’t talked to my mom. She has pretty much been making a lot of my decisions in life for me,” Dybantsa said during an appearance on Yahoo Daily.
Dybantsa, who is widely expected to be a top-three — if not No. 1 overall — pick in June’s draft, has consistently refused to say whether he’d leave BYU after his freshman year, and he’s apparently still not ready to do so.

“I know she wants me to graduate college, so I don’t know if she is basing it off of, ‘Yeah, you’re going to stay in school to graduate or if she just wants me to go accomplish my dreams,” Dybantsa said. “Who knows?”
Dybantsa has described his mother, Chelsea, as the “big boss” on major decisions in his basketball career.
She is said to have helped him choose where to play high school basketball and decide on going to BYU for his college experience.
Dybantsa’s father, Ace, is serving as his manager as he navigates the NIL world.
Dybantsa was dominant during his freshman season, averaging 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 51 percent from the field.
His play earned him AP All-America First Team honors.

Dybantsa led the Cougars to a 23-12 record during the regular season with little star talent around him in their rotation.
As a No. 6 seed, BYU was upset by Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, although Dybantsa did all he could in that game, scoring 35 points on 11-of-25 shooting with 10 rebounds.
