Prince Louis is a huge fan of beetroot, his mum Princess Kate once revealed to baking legend Mary Berry.

The now-six-year-old could be left disappointed as the very sophisticated vegetable is unlikely to be served on his plate this Christmas.

Speaking to Mary about her children in 2019 during a special BBC programme titled A Berry Royal Christmas, Kate revealed that vegetables were a massive hit in her household. Discussing food, Kate also opened up on the family’s passion for growing their own.

The royal, 42, then shared Louis’s favourite vegetable. The doting mother said: “We grow our own vegetables, we’ve got carrots, beans, beetroot’s a massive favourite, Louis absolutely loves beetroot.”

Speaking about her daughter, the royal then joked that Princess Charlotte “obviously loves her Charlotte potatoes”.

Discussing what the royals eat on December 25, former royal chef Darren McGrady – who worked for the Royal Family between 1982 and 1998 – said that the decadent royal Christmas lunch includes a “salad with shrimp or lobster, and a roasted turkey, and all of your traditional side dishes like parsnips, carrots, Brussels sprouts and Christmas pudding with brandy butter for dessert”.

Speaking about the seating arrangements, the former royal chef also revealed that the young royals sit separately to the adult royals. He said that they are required to sit on their own until “they have learned the art of polite conversation”.

The well-known rule is reportedly “always” in effect – but is even more important on special occasions. Much like the royal children of today, Prince William and Prince Harry also followed the same rules when they were young.

Prince Louis is set to join his siblings and parents at the Sandringham estate later this month for the family’s annual festive celebrations.

The King and Queen are set to welcome their family to the Norfolk, with Camilla’s son Tom Parker Bowles also expected this year.

Zara and Mike Tindall are also expected to join the family in Norfolk, as well as Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence.

Shortly after Christmas, Zara and Mike – who live on Anne’s Gatcombe Estate in Gloucestershire – are set to fly to Australia to attend the annual Magic Millions event.
