CM Punk may have changed everything about his WrestleMania main event against Roman Reigns with one closing line on Raw this week.
The World Heavyweight champion telling Reigns he is going to “bury you next to your father,” Afa, when they are done at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, took everything to a whole other personal level that almost seems unnecessary. The match has plenty of legs to stand on, given the pair’s shared history and them being on equal footing now, unlike when Punk left in 2014.
Until that last line, we were still getting elite-level promos between the two, with Punk seemingly slightly more the babyface right up until that moment.
Reigns was only calling Punk by his real name — Phil — questioning if he is lying to the fans with his happy act since returning to WWE despite him being told in storyline that all the “Best in the World” does is complain backstage. At one point, Reigns even told Punk he was irrelevant to him, and it was only the title he cared about.
