Missing Virginia football coach Travis Turner allegedly sexted a 16-year-old student explicit photos of his genitalia, the girl’s family has claimed.
Turner — the 46-year-old married father of three who vanished late last year as cops were on the way to grill him over child porn and exploitation accusations — allegedly sent the disturbing X-rated messages over a three-month stretch, The Sun reported, citing a family insider.
The head coach at Union High School then disappeared almost as soon as the allegations were reported after the girl was overheard talking about it in the library, the family alleged.
“It all happened very quickly,” the source said.
“First came the accusation, then the police became involved. Then Turner went missing. It was overwhelming.”
Turner hasn’t been seen since he vanished into a wooded area with a gun on Nov. 20 as police were heading to his Big Stone Gap home to question him as part of a child sex crimes investigation.
After an extensive manhunt was launched, police revealed the longtime coach and pillar of the football-loving small-town community was wanted on a string of child porn charges and for soliciting a minor.
The schoolgirl, who has never been identified publicly, is said to be in a “very depressive state” and has been bullied by other students in the wake of the ordeal.
The alleged victim’s family have since blasted the Wise County school district’s handling of the entire ordeal — claiming they failed to report the allegations properly to authorities.
They alleged, too, that the school initially appeared to suggest the beloved coach may have been catfished and that he was potentially a victim.
“There were football playoffs on at that time, so that’s all they care about,” the family source said. “Brushing this under the carpet is typical — but it’s a disgrace.”
Authorities have provided few substantive updates in the wake of Turner’s disappearance.
Virginia police and Wise County schools both declined to comment on the nature of the allegations leveled against the coach.
Turner’s family, for their part, has previously insisted he is innocent of the charges.
