Jack Hughes and Tate McRae are still hooked on each other.
Fresh off the Devils forward’s gold-medal run at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games, a source relayed to Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday that Hughes and the “Greedy” singer are “having fun getting to know each other” after fueling romance rumors late last year.
“They have a lot of the same friends and started hanging out that way,” the insider said. “He has gone to her shows, and she likes supporting him at games too.”
The 22-year-old McRae, who previously dated singer The Kid LAROI, first sparked buzz with Hughes, 24, in November when they took in a dinner date in New York.
The relationship chatter intensified a month later when the “You Broke Me First” crooner took in one of Hughes’ games in Newark.
Both Hughes and McRae then set their sights on the 2026 Winter Olympics, with the Devils’ 2019 first-round pick teaming up with older brother Quinn on the U.S. men’s hockey team, while McRae had the internet talking over her appearance in an NBC ad spotlighting the games and Team USA athletes, given she’s a Calgary, Alberta native.
“…y’all know I’m Canada down,” McRae wrote on social media in response to the backlash earlier this month, according to People.
Hughes went on to become an Olympic hero after scoring the golden goal in the Americans’ 2-1 overtime triumph over Canada last weekend, securing the first gold medal in men’s hockey for the U.S. since 1980.
However, not long after the celebrations began, controversy erupted over how the men’s team reacted to a joke made by President Donald Trump on a congratulatory phone call, when the commander-in-chief stated he would also have to invite the U.S. women’s hockey team to the White House following their gold medal win in Italy or else, “I do believe I probably would be impeached.”
Team members laughed at the remarks, as captured in video footage of the call, with several expressing remorse afterward about how the matter was handled.
The Hughes siblings addressed the firestorm Tuesday during an interview on “Good Morning America.”
“We’re extremely happy for them. Obviously, there’s a lot going on with social media right now surrounding our team and their team,” Quinn, a defenseman on the Minnesota Wild, said.
“But in the last couple of summers, we did a lot of training with them and got to know a lot of those girls really well.”
McRae, who apparently double-tapped a celebratory Instagram post from Hughes’ brother Quinn, is rumored to have removed the “like” amid the heat engulfing the men’s team, according to Cosmopolitan.
Although the two currently follow one another on Instagram, Entertainment Tonight’s source noted where McRae stands on romances now.
“She’s not looking for something super serious,” the insider said. “But he really likes her.”
