One worker was killed, and another was critically injured after a construction trench collapsed at a Brooklyn jobsite on Thursday morning, according to police.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m., firefighters and police responded to a report of two workers trapped in a trench at a construction site on Jefferson Street between Wilson and Central Avenue in Bushwick, according to the NYPD.

EMS rushed the injured workers to a local hospital. A 47-year-old man was pronounced dead, and a 40-year-old man is in critical, but stable condition, police said.
The alarming incident unfolded at a two-story building that was under a permit for foundation work to increase the building’s height, the NYC Department of Buildings said.
While the men were removing debris to begin foundation work, rubble from the adjacent building’s foundation collapsed on top of them, according to the DOB.

The DOB has now issued a full stop-work order at the construction site, as well as partial vacate orders for the site’s neighboring yards.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the incident.
