Howie Roseman appears to be wheeling and dealing at the NFL combine.
After saying that the Eagles were not moving A.J. Brown at the trade deadline despite his clear unhappiness with his role on the team, it appears that the GM has softened his stance, according to ESPN’s Peter Schrager.
“A lot of conversations are had in hallways and bars and in restaurants, and I’ll tell you this,” Schrager said on “Get Up” on Thursday. “There is a difference in tone from the trade deadline when Howie Roseman said to everybody, ‘Absolutely off the table, we’re not trading A.J. Brown.’”
Schrager added that in Indianapolis, where the NFL holds its scouting combine, Roseman sounded much more open to a deal.
“Here in Indy, it sounds like ‘Well I’ll never just say no to listening to offers’,” Schrager said. “Howie Roseman, around this time of the year, is always listening.”
Brown hasn’t been silent in regards to his happiness in Philadelphia. He made several cryptic social media posts throughout the season and had multiple sideline blowups with quarterback Jalen Hurts.
The star receiver even joked on a podcast with Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski that he could be a Patriot.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie even approached Brown about the social media complaints during a 10-minute pregame warm-up meeting, prompting Brown to agree to stop the missives about his displeasure.
Schrager added that there is a financial barrier to Brown being traded, as the Eagles would incur a $40 million dead cap hit if they move him before June 1.
“Howie is always looking to make a deal; he’s the best in the business when it comes to that, but he also likes to add, not subtract,” Schrager concluded. “In order to trade AJ Brown, they would need something back, and also, it’s a really big financial hit.”
The Eagles’ 2026 season ended in disaster, as Philadelphia was eliminated from the playoffs by the 49ers just a year removed from a dominant Super Bowl run.
Philadelphia has since fallen apart at the seams, with the team dealing with a mass exodus at the assistant coaching level.
