Angelenos can now not only see Alysa Liu all over their social media pages, but on a huge wall in their city as well.
A mural of the figure skater, who’s a student at UCLA, cropped up this week in Los Angeles following her triumph at this month’s Milano Cortina Winter Games — and it’s huge.
The man responsible for the new artwork is Gustavo Zermeño Jr., who told NBC4 on Wednesday he began painting the piece at 15532 Crenshaw Blvd. in Gardena on Tuesday after he was moved by her gold-medal-winning performances in Italy.

“I think her personality really captivated the US,” Zermeño said. “She’s from the Bay Area, but she goes to UCLA, so she has some ties to Los Angeles, but I think ultimately, I wanted to paint something that not only inspired myself but obviously inspired the U.S., but also inspires the youth.”
The mural is a depiction of Liu from the moments after she earned America’s first Olympic gold medal in women’s figure skating in over two decades on Feb. 19.

The Liu illustration features her biting her trophy — with her “smiley” piercing and signature striped hair color on full display.
Another image of her skating will be added in the background, though Zermeño said he’s not exactly sure when it’ll all be fully completed.
Nonetheless, he said he hopes it has an impact in the community when it’s done.
“It’d be amazing if she sees this, but this is for us,” he said. “This is for the community, to inspire the youth.”
