A cold-hearted Florida man allegedly gunned down his 83-year-old dementia-stricken wife in their home – telling police rotting in prison would be easier than caring for her, authorities said.

William Elwood Simmons, 80, was arrested and hit with a first-degree murder charge after shooting his wife, Nancy, dead in the kitchen of their Orlando home while arguing about a cruise around 5:15 p.m. Saturday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said, according to Fox 35.

When police arrived, they found the woman face down in the kitchen with blood streaming from her head.

Asked by cops if he knew what happened, Simmons chillingly admitted, “I do know what happened, I did it,” an arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet shows.

The heartless husband allegedly told deputies he and his sick wife were bickering when he fetched a shotgun from the bedroom, returned and fired the single shot – claiming he was fed up with her dementia, missed the woman she once was, and “would rather go to prison than deal with her.”

Simmons assured authorities he wasn’t under the influence and wasn’t under attack when he fired the deadly blow, the outlet reported.
