Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn laid brick after brick for the long road ahead.
Their backstage interaction on SmackDown this week was a masterclass in believability, staying true to your character and long-term storytelling. It was exactly what fans were hoping for after the “American Nightmare” took advantage of Zayn’s Helluva Kick to Drew McIntyre, immediately grabbing the distracted Zayn for a Cross Rhodes to find his way into the Elimination Chamber match.
Neither man told a lie in the segment and both made a case to be the one to turn heel — though the smart money is on Zayn.
Rhodes has learned the lesson multiple times that to get and stay on top as champion, you can’t hesitate to capitalize on an advantageous situation — even if it means bending your morals and crossing friends just a little bit.
