Patio weeds can be a nuisance and rather stubborn, oftentimes returning not long after they are removed.

Luckily, you can use a few common kitchen ingredients to make a budget-friendly remedy that could save you time and money while keeping your outdoor spaces weed-free.

The team at Lottomart have shared their simple yet effective formula that makes tackling pesky weeds much easier and more affordable – and they say it works in as little as 48 hours.

According to their advice, with the right approach, it’s possible to eliminate stubborn weeds successfully without resorting to expensive chemical solutions.

They explained: “With the right approach, you can deal with those stubborn weeds effectively. This homemade weed killer, costing less than 70p per litre to prepare, uses just a few common household ingredients: white vinegar, table salt, and a dash of dish soap.”

To prepare the solution, the experts recommend using a pressurised sprayer for the most effective application. The beauty of this homemade solution is its versatility and simplicity to make.

For smaller quantities, they suggest combining 500ml of white vinegar, 30ml of table salt, and a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid.

Once you’ve mixed the ingredients, shake the solution well to ensure everything is thoroughly blended, which will enhance its potency.

They added: “For the best results, apply this solution on a dry day when conditions allow it to work at its best.”

Within 24 hours of application, you should start to see the weeds wilting, and within 48 hours, they will likely be completely dried out.

This fast-acting solution is not only effective but also saves you the hassle and cost of commercial weed killers. It helps keep your outdoor areas neat and tidy while being much more eco-friendly and budget-conscious than store-bought alternatives.

The homemade weed killer works due to the combined actions of its simple ingredients: white vinegar, salt, and dish soap.

White vinegar contains acetic acid, which works to dehydrate the leaves of the weeds, essentially drying them out.

The salt, on the other hand, disrupts the plant’s ability to absorb water and nutrients, effectively starving the weed and preventing it from recovering.

Dish soap serves as a surfactant, which means it helps the solution cling to the leaves of the weeds, allowing for better absorption of the mixture.

When applied on a dry day, the solution quickly soaks into the foliage, leading to visible wilting within 24 hours and complete drying within 48 hours.

This method provides a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to harsh chemical herbicides, making it an ideal solution for those looking to tackle weeds without breaking the bank or harming the environment.
