During a testimony in front of the House Homeland Security Committee on Tuesday, Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) asked acting ICE Director Todd Lyons “How do you think Judgment Day will work for you with so much blood on your hands?” after getting him to confirm that he’s religious.

“I’m not going to entertain that question,” Lyons answered.

McIver, who was indicted in June for impeding law enforcement during a visit to an immigration facility in May 2025, then went further.

“Do you think you’re going to hell, Mr. Lyons?”

That prompted House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) to intervene with a note on decorum.

“All you guys are always talking about religion here and the Bible,” McIver replied. “I mean, it’s okay for me to ask a question.”
