The Democratic Socialists of America are furious with lefty “Squad” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for refusing to endorse a radical in a Texas Congressional midterm race and choosing a moderate Dem instead.
The Queens Democrat endorsed “blue dog” Rep. Julie Johnson (D-TX) last week in the heated race for Dallas’ redrawn 33rd district, incensing her comrades who trashed her as a “career opportunist” in a party discussion board.
“She will not survive the primary if she keeps this pattern,” threatened one. “She makes us look goofy.”
They wanted her to pick candidate Zeeshan Hafeez, a first-generation Pakistani immigrant and political outsider pushing to undermine federal authority by abolishing and prosecuting ICE.
Hafeez is not a DSA member but was endorsed by a slew of other progressive groups that include the Dallas County Young Democrats, Progressive Victory and Progressive Democrats of America.
Hafeez, 42, a data cloud executive at Salesforce, told The Post he made multiple attempts to reach AOC seeking her endorsement but was given the runaround.
He only found out the “Bronx girl” went with Johnson when she posted AOC’s endorsement video on social media.
“I was dumbfounded,” said Hafeez. “A lot of Democrats were surprised.”
“My policies align 100% with hers and the Squad’s. I would have been one of her biggest advocates in Congress.
“Johnson co-sponsored legislation to expand ICE funding and operations, then shifted her rhetoric when public pressure mounted,” he slammed.
“I guess some deal was made.”
Johnson was the second moderate Democrat in 10 days AOC endorsed for the midterms — disgusting some in the DSA who bashed that she appeared to be on the “same path as Pelosi.”
AOC did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.
