Caitlin Clark’s NBC debut features awkward Reggie Miller moment

Caitlin Clark’s face said it all.

During her debut broadcast on NBC’s “Basketball Night in America” Sunday, the Indiana Fever superstar appeared caught off guard when Pacers legend Reggie Miller made a comparison between her and Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard.

“I like Payton Pritchard from Boston,” Miller said when host Maria Taylor asked which NBA player he thinks Clark’s game resembles. “The way he’s able to handle the basketball.

“He makes big shots when the shot clock’s running down. A lot like this young lady right here. Isn’t afraid of the big moment and is a champion like she’s soon to be.”

Pritchard — who is the NBA’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year — averaged 6.4 points in 18.7 minutes a game during Boston’s run to the 2024 championship.

The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year didn’t say anything.

She smiled awkwardly and looked down.

Miller also said that he’s now the third best shooter in Indiana behind Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton and Clark, the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I history.

Former NBA forward Carmelo Anthony, who joined NBC Sports as an analyst this season, likened Clark’s game to Lakers star Luka Doncic.

“The way that you’re able to play in that open court, to see the vision you have, to be able to shoot at the drop of a dime, to be able to pull up across half court — you keep the defense thinking every time, not knowing what you’re going to do,” Anthony said.

Clark was the first overall pick by the Fever in the 2024 WNBA draft.

The two-time WNBA All-Star joined NBC Sports as a special contributor ahead of the Knicks’ 112-102 win over the Lakers at Madison Square Garden.
