A famous California bald eagle couple had their nest invaded by a predatory raven after laying their first egg of the year, leaving fans heartbroken at the tragic attack.
Jackie and Shadow were away from their nest in Big Bear when the raven swooped in and pecked at one of the eggs as viewers of the lovebirds’ popular livestream watched in horror.
The pair had welcomed their first egg of the new year last week and laid another on Monday.
“Both eggs are believed to have been breached by the raven,” Friends of Big Bear Valley, the nonprofit that operates the Big Bear eagle nest cam, told KTLA in a statement.

Jackie and Shadow are also parents to eaglets Sunny and Gizmo, who hatched last spring, but they tragically lost a third to heavy snowfall.
More eggs could soon fill the nest. Bald eagles tend to lay multiple eggs for higher chances of survival, and Jackie has historically laid hers every three days.
