The Timberwolves’ game Saturday against the Warriors in Minnesota was postponed until Sunday after an armed 37-year-old man was shot and killed by federal agents following a confrontation in Minneapolis, according to ESPN.

Their game was rescheduled for Sunday at 5:30 p.m., the outlet added.

“The decision was made to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community,” the Timberwolves wrote in a statement posted to X on Saturday.

Protests ensued after the shooting, which marked the third this month involving federal agents in Minneapolis. The Department of Homeland Security wrote in a statement posted to social media that officers were “conducting a targeted operation” when the man who was killed approached them “with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.”

“The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted,” the DHS continued in its statement. “… Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots.”

In the aftermath of Renee Good’s death earlier this month, the Timberwolves held a moment of silence before a Target Center game. It’s unclear if they plan to do that for Sunday’s game — when they attempt to snap a four-game losing streak.

“As we all know, our community has suffered yet another unspeakable tragedy,” Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch told reporters earlier this month following Good’s death, according to The Athletic.

“We want to just convey our condolences and heartfelt wishes and prayers and thoughts to the families and loved ones and all of those that are greatly affected by what happened.”
