Former NFL star Kevin Johnson, who was found dead from stab and head wounds in a Los Angeles homeless encampment, had been living on the streets and may have suffered from CTE, his friends said.

Officials ruled the 55-year-old’s death a homicide and an investigation is ongoing. He had been living at the encampment and was discovered on the 1300 block of East 120th Street on Wednesday morning.

Friends told ABC 7 that that the former Eagles defensive lineman suffered from CTE, a degenerative brain disease associated with repeated head trauma during football games.
