The mystery gunman who shot Indiana Judge Steven Meyer and his wife uttered four words to get them to come to their front door, according to police dispatch audio.
“There was a knock on the door, someone advised, ‘We have your dog’ — and then a shot came through the door,” a dispatcher said in audio obtained by Fox News Digital.
The Tippecanoe Superior Court judge was hit in the arm, and his wife, Kimberly, was shot in the hip, although it isn’t clear exactly how many shots were fired into their Lafayette home Sunday, police said. Both are in stable condition.
Neither were able to get a look at the shooter, who fled and is still being hunted. No motive or description of the suspect has been released.
The attack was branded a “senseless, unacceptable act of violence” by Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski, who pledged continued law enforcement efforts.
Multiple agencies, including local cops, state police, and the FBI, are involved in the active investigation into the shooting.
“I have great confidence in the Lafayette Police Department’s investigation and want to thank all the agencies involved for their work,” Kimberly Meyer said.
“We are also incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from the community; everyone has been so kind and compassionate,” she added.
