The brother of the Southport attacker has said that he was told by his father to be “careful” around his sibling days before the attack. Dion Rudakubana told the Southport Inquiry on Wednesday that his father spoke to him about his concerns about Axel’s behaviour on July 26 2024.
He said that at some point he was told about an incident when his brother had tried to get into a taxi and was stopped by his father, but was unsure when. He said: “He was quite content not to concern me with these things often… the reason he made any indication was because he was telling me to be careful around him.”
The inquiry heard that Dion believed his father was “afraid”, which he said was “unusual”. Dion said that he did not think his father directly warned that his brother could kill him, but that there was a “threat to life”, adding: “I felt that.” He added: “It made me nervous but I knew if I didn’t interact things would probably be fine.”
