Tesco customers might find themselves unable to purchase everything on their shopping list, due to a rule you may not know about.
he supermarket giant has implemented a policy preventing shoppers from buying too many of the same products in a single transaction.
Britain’s biggest supermarket chain, Tesco operates more than 2,900 branches nationwide. The retailer serves millions of consumers, with approximately 20 million households holding a Clubcard.
However, many customers remain unaware of the “maximum purchase quantity” restriction that covers numerous product lines.
This regulation prevents shoppers from exceeding the permitted limit for each individual item during one shopping trip.
While the maximum quantity permitted varies according to the specific product, a number of items currently have a 16 unit restriction per shop, according to Tesco’s website.
These include:

- Tesco Bunched Spring Onions 100G
- Tesco Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese 200G
- Tesco Greek Style Natural Yogurt 1Kg
- Tesco 100% Pure Orange Juice Smooth 1 Litre
- Tesco White Toastie Bread Thick Sliced 800g
- Tesco British Semi Skimmed Milk 2.272L, 4 Pints
- Tesco Wafer Thin Honey Roast Ham Slices 125g
- Tesco Beef Mince 20% Fat 500g
- Nightingale Farms Peppers 375G
- Tesco Chicken Mince 5% Fat 500G
- H. W. Nevills Plain White Tortilla Wraps 8 Pack
On its website, Tesco explains: “To ensure availability of all our products customers may be limited to a maximum number of items.”
