A jacket potato is a trusty meal that’s perfect for lunch or dinner but making it taste fluffy and crispy can be tricky.
It can be hard to make your potato soft instead of hard in parts but to get it right, all you need to do is add one ingredient.
This simple step could transform an ordinary baked potato into something more special.
BBC Good Food says: “Rub the potato skin in a little oil, about one tablespoon is plenty. Sprinkle over a pinch of salt.”
Adding a small amount of oil to your potato can help to lock in the potato’s natural moisture meaning it will taste even more delicious.
Before baking, you should make sure to give your potatoes a good scrub to remove any dirt, then pat them completely dry.
Next, you should coat the potatoes with about one tablespoon of oil. You can use any oil you have at home whether this be olive oil, vegetable oil or sunflower oil.
The oil helps conduct heat evenly, encouraging that delicious crunch.
Next, you should make sure to sprinkle a pinch of salt over each potato for flavour.
Place your spuds into the oven on gas mark six for around an hour to an hour and 20 minutes.
BBC Good Food says: “It’s best to check after one hour, you want a crispy golden skin and a soft, fluffy inside.”
When they’re done, slice them open immediately to keep that fluffy texture intact.
Now it’s time for the all important toppings – butter, cheese, tuna, chilli con carne or whatever your favourites are.
With this method, your potatoes will be fluffy and delicious.
With just a tablespoon of oil, your jacket potatoes will go from average to outstanding.
