A young woman was sexually assulted by a hooded man walking his dog in a popular UK tourist town. Police have launched an investigation following the attack and are appealing to the public for relevant information.

The victim, aged in her 20s, was inappropriately touched twice on her bottom in Wimborne on Tuesday, October 14. According to Dorset Police, she was walking along a gravel track between Moore Close and Ainsley Road when the suspect sexually assaulted her. Investigating officers are now keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened or who may be able to identify the man involved.

He is described as white, aged between 40 and 50 years old, approximately five feet eleven inches tall and of slim build with stubble and long slicked-back hair with grey streaks that was just below his ears in length. He was wearing a dark blue hooded jumper, dark blue tracksuit bottoms and black shoes.

Police added that he was walking a dog, described as medium-sized and black with a blue collar, at the time of the attack. They are urging anyone who may know him to get in touch as soon as possible.

Police Constable Tom Bailey, of East Dorset police, said: “This was very distressing for the victim and we are determined to identify the man responsible. I am now appealing to anyone who may recognise the man and his dog from the descriptions given to please come forward.

“Also, I am keen to speak to anyone who was walking in the area around the relevant time and may have information to help my investigation.”

Dorset Police added: “Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55250152575. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.”

Wimborne was recently named as one of the best places in the UK for retirees to live, topping a host of well-known seaside towns. The market town in Dorset is considered a hidden gem and attracts a number of tourists every year.
