Ruben Amorim has admitted that he has been left surprised by Bruno Fernandes since arriving at Manchester United last year. The midfielder has been a stalwart for the Red Devils following his move from Sporting back in 2020. He was one of United’s top performers in last weekend’s victory over Liverpool, which was their first win at Anfield in nearly a decade.
Fernandes has been regarded as an indispensable asset by every United manager he has played under since joining the club. He is often accused of being overly emotional on the pitch, but Amorim believes that is a good thing. Speaking in Friday’s press conference, the Portuguese boss explained how Fernandes has surprised him over the last 12 months.
“He is a little different what I was expecting [when he arrived],” said Amorim. “The frustrations he feels is from a good place and you don’t know that when you are not here. He suffers a lot when we lose, he takes it personally. He is a great leader.
