The M62 motorway is a 107-mile (172 km) west–east trans-Pennine route in Northern England, linking Liverpool and Hull while passing through major cities like Manchester, Bradford, and Leeds.
Construction of the motorway took place in stages from the early 1960s to 1976, overcoming challenging terrain such as peat bogs and the Pennines, with a total inflation-adjusted cost of around £765 million.
It reaches the highest elevation of any motorway in England at 1,221 feet (372 m) near Windy Hill, and features unique elements like Stott Hall Farm, an 18th-century building preserved between the carriageways to avoid demolition.
