Tottenham failed to impress as they were held to their first goalless draw in two years by Monaco in the Champions League. Both teams had opportunities to score but nobody managed to find the elusive breakthrough, meaning the spoils were shared at the final whistle. The home side went closest but were repeatedly denied by Guglielmo Vicario, who earned a clean sheet with an inspired display between the sticks.
The main problem for the visitors was their lack of creativity from midfield, with Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur offering nowhere near enough. Monaco will feel like they deserved to win but Vicario’s brilliance meant they were denied all three points. The result marked Tottenham’s first goalless game in 125 matches, with the north Londoners somewhat fortunate to avoid defeat.

Made a string of hugely important saves to keep the visitors on level terms. The best player on the pitch by some distance.

Ran tirelessly and worked hard but lacked an end product, so had nothing to show for his efforts.

Looked composed on the ball and kept things calm when out of possession in the defensive third.
Micky van de Ven – 6
Did his defensive duties well enough. Nearly opened the scoring with a glancing header but got his bearings wrong.
Archie Gray – 7
Had a decent game, covering plenty of ground and making some crucial interceptions and tackles.
Joao Palhinha – 6
Did much of the dirty work to break up play in the middle of the park, but was sloppy in possession.
Rodrigo Bentancur – 4
A passenger for much of the game. Didn’t really get himself involved in the play and offered very little going forward.
Lucas Bergvall – 4
Lacked the creativity required to unlock Monaco’s defence. Nearly gifted them a goal by running himself into trouble before the break.

Looked lively and caused problems with his direct running and accurate crossing. An encouraging display.

Put a few dangerous crosses into the box and worked hard to make things happen, but was unable to influence the result.

Not his best game. Fluffed a golden chance to open the scoring before the interval and had next to no presence up top.
