Prince Andrew’s latest royal crisis has been branded “as bad as Diana’s death” by a royal expert today. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond appeared on ITV’s Loose Women show on Wednesday to talk about Andrew’s latest scandals, including the fact he has now said he will no longer use his royal titles.
While the Prince, 65, has denied all accusations against him that have arisen as a result of his previous association with the late convicted paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein, the royal’s reputation has hit an all-time low over the last week. It has also distracted from the work of the monarchy, with many people believing Andrew’s latest scandals have cast a shadow over the Royal Family’s image.
Speaking on Loose Women today, Jennie Bond said that it has been a “huge crisis” for the royals, dubbing it “even as bad” as Diana’s death.
This is because Diana, Princess of Wales’ tragic death in a Paris car crash in 1997 damaged the image of the monarchy as their lack of public reaction immediately after her death made them appear cold, with the late Queen staying at Balmoral rather than flying down to London.
While she made this decision in the best interests of Prince William and Prince Harry, who had just lost their mother, the late Queen faced a lot of hostility.
Comparing the Prince Andrew scandal to the crisis the royals faced after Diana’s death, Ms Bond said on Loose Women: “It’s gone on and on. It’s been relentless, and I do think this is a huge crisis for the Royal Family.
“I have said even as bad as Diana’s death because, as tragic as that was, this is such a sordid tale, and I know Andrew has denied all the accusations.”
