Hedda is a highly anticipated film coming to Prime Video following its cinema release on October 22.

The reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s play had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September and was described by Deadline as “a genuine attempt to mine something new from the old text”.

Damon Wise described it as “a compelling fusion of Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and Stephen Fry’s Bright Young Things”.

Ahead of its Prime Video release, it has already won five awards, three of them going to actress Tessa Thompson, including the Distinguished Performance Award at the Savannah Film Festival.

Here’s all you need to know about the film including the release date and cast.

The film was released in cinemas in the US on October 22 and it will be streaming on Prime Video from October 29.

Prime Video’s standard release time for its titles is midnight on the day of release.

The cast is led by Tessa Thompson as Hedda Gabler, and the 42-year-old American actress is known for her roles in Creed and as Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film also stars 28 Weeks Later’s Imogen Poots as Thea Clifton and Murder on the Orient Express’s Tom Bateman as George Tesman.

The rest of the cast includes:

Nicholas Pinnock as Judge Roland Brack

Nina Hoss as Eileen Lovborg

Kathryn Hunter as Bertie

Finbar Lynch as Professor Greenwood

Mirren Mack as Tabitha Greenwood

Jamael Westman as David

Saffron Hocking as Jane Ji

Yes, the trailer was released back in August and it shows how the title character’s reputation proceeds her.

The preview introduces Eileen Lovborg as Hedda’s love interest with some steamy interactions following.

Prime Video has teased the film as “a little chaos” and viewers flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.

@mwllms1995 said: “This trailer is GIVING me The Great Gatsby meets murder mystery vibes and I’m HERE FOR IT.”

Hedda, the daughter of a general, navigates a house she does not want as well as a marriage she feels trapped in, and an ex-lover who reappears in her life.

Hedda airs on Prime Video on October 29
