While Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 35, have not commented on the accusations their father has faced, or the fact he has given up using his royal titles, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said they will be “devastated” by this.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk about how the sisters are likely to feel, Mr Fitzwilliams said: “The Yorks are famously close knit. Beatrice and Eugenie will have been devastated by recent developments and also fearful of what is to come.

“This presents them with an obvious challenge, to separate their image, happily married with careers and keen to do charity work, both have recently increased this, from that of their parents in the public mind.”

While Eugenie and Beatrice have stayed quiet on the matter, Beatrice was seen driving into Royal Lodge yesterday in Windsor to see her father.

It is not known whether Eugenie has also paid a visit to her dad since the news that he will no longer use his Duke of York title was confirmed on Friday.

It is reported that Eugenie and Beatrice have not been impacted by the fact their parents will no longer use royal titles, and will still be known as princesses.

Andrew’s statement on Friday read: “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.

“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
