Apple just made your current MacBook look mightily inferior – new laptop is coming soon

It’s been rumoured for weeks, now we finally know what’s next for the MacBook, and it looks pretty mighty. Apple has just lifted the lid on its very latest 14-inch Pro laptops, which will all be powered by the ludicrously quick M5 processor. This update, which replaces the current crop of M4 machines, promises to bring some very impressive performance gains to those buying one of these latest machines.

Apple reckons the M5 takes things up a notch with a big leap in AI for the Mac. The new chip features a next-generation 10-core GPU — with a Neural Accelerator in each core — that delivers up to 3.5 times faster AI performance than the older M4 processor, and up to 6x faster performance than the original M1 brain.

“From college students transcribing lecture notes, to creators storyboarding a new project with AI tools, to business users uncovering insights by running local models in webAI, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 is the ultimate laptop for everyday AI workflows and so much more,” Apple explained.

It’s not just AI where things improve. The M5 chip also brings faster system-wide performance and more capabilities to the 14-inch MacBook Pro. Apple is promising that the 14-inch Pro will deliver up to 1.6 times faster graphics performance in pro apps and enables up to 1.6 times higher frame rates in games compared to the M4 model

Along with that extra oomph, the new MacBook Pro M5 will also get some epic battery life that will keep the screen glowing for over 23 hours before needing to find a plug. The battery can also be fast charged to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.

Other extras include a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with the option to add a nano-texture to reduce reflections and it comes with 16GB of RAM as standard.

Of course, owners will still get all the usual features, including market-leading ForceTouch trackpad, fingerprint scanner, premium aluminium design and stereo speakers. There’s also an advanced 12MP Centre Stage camera and studio-quality mics for improved video calls.

It comes in Space Black and Silver with prices starting from £1,599.

“MacBook Pro continues to be the world’s best pro laptop, and today, the 14-inch MacBook Pro gets even better with the arrival of the M5 chip,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.

“M5 marks the next big leap in AI for the Mac and delivers a huge boost in graphics performance, accelerating demanding workflows for everyone from students to creatives, developers to business professionals, and more. With its amazing performance, extraordinary battery life, and unrivalled display, M5 takes the new 14-inch MacBook Pro to another level.”
