Homes will be ‘fresher’ when you have these houseplants

Houseplants, including peace lilies, can bring a number of benefits into the home, including brightening up a space and removing harsh toxins. Flowers and indoor plants can contribute to cleaner indoor air in several different ways, according to Eflorist. They said: “First, they can help with absorbing toxins, as some flowers, like houseplants, have the ability to absorb pollutants such as formaldehyde and ammonia, which are commonly found in household products.

“They can also help to increase humidity, as flowers release moisture into the air, which can help combat dryness. As well as this, they release oxygen through photosynthesis, since flowers take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen, improving the freshness of your indoor environment.”

As well as this, they can provide a natural fragrance, so instead of using artificial fragrances and air fresheners, you can use fresh flowers as a natural way to keep your home smelling fresh.

The experts have shared a list of five of the “best” flowers and plants to introduce into your home for “cleaner” and “fresher” air.

Peace lilies

Peace lilies are one of the most effective air-purifying flowers or houseplants, known to remove dangerous toxins like formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon monoxide.

The experts said: “So much so that research from NASA identifies them as one of the best air-purifying houseplants. They also thrive in low-light conditions, making them easy to care for, so even beginner gardeners and flower enthusiasts can enjoy the benefits of peace lilies.”

Orchids

Orchids are a fantastic choice for improving air quality, as they can absorb harmful chemicals like xylene, toluene, and formaldehyde that can be found in the air.

They also release oxygen at night, making them a great option for bedrooms. They’re low maintenance as they only require water every seven to 10 days.

Lavender

The experts added: “Famous for its calming scent, lavender can help reduce stress while also improving air quality, making it another of the best air-purifying plants.

“Lavender can help to filter air pollutants, and it releases a lovely, calming fragrance naturally, eliminating the need for any synthetic air fresheners in your home.”

Jasmine

Jasmine flowers emit a sweet fragrance and can “improve sleep quality” and “reduce stress” by promoting relaxation, according to the experts.

They added that jasmine flowers are also great oxygen-producing flowers whilst absorbing formaldehyde, benzene, trichloroethylene and xylene.
