‘Neighbour keeps making selfish noises but I’ll get last laugh’

A resident has taken matters into their own hands against a nightmare neighbour who insists on playing loud music at all hours.

The individual, who remains anonymous, took to the r/NeighboursfromHell Reddit page to share their plight and seek advice on how to deal with the situation.

The resident is seeking help in plotting revenge against the neighbour, who not only blasts music but also revs their engine incessantly.

It appears that the noise pollution caused by this neighbour is also irritating other residents on the street, although no one else has yet taken any action.

In a bid for “petty revenge”, they turned to the online forum for suggestions, with many users advising that consistency is key when dealing with troublesome neighbours.

The resident explained: “I own a townhouse where my open side patio faces the backside of another building where that building’s garages and back bedroom windows (second story) are probably 60 to 70 feet away from this building.

“In June tenants from hell moved in. Trashy parents with a bunch of teenage boys who work on dirt bikes and four wheelers in the garage at all hours of the day.

“They rev the engines constantly and drive around the neighbourhood for a minute or two and then come back to the garage and continue revving the engines.

“The noise is actually crazy, and we have good windows that block a lot of sound- but we’ve recorded over 80 decibels from our own living room of sound with the windows shut. They also blare bass-heavy music constantly- the music and revving is not drowned out by our fans, white noise machines, closed windows, anything.

“We’ve called the non-emergency line and their behaviour hasn’t changed. Our neighbours have contacted the property management company that rents to them and they were told that they’ll talk to them. Again, no change.

“Please help me with petty revenge ideas. I can’t do anything that will inconvenience other neighbours like blasting music back at them or anything, because we’re in such close quarters with everyone.”

Fellow social media users have since weighed in with their suggestions for tackling nightmare neighbours, with one recommending that “consistency” remains crucial when lodging complaints with police to genuinely address the disturbance.

One commenter penned: “Consistency is key. Keep making reports to both police and the housing company. Submit a copy of the police report every time to the company.”

Someone else chimed in: “Look up the noise ordinances where you live and if they are in violation take screenshots of the sound app to show to the police and the leasing company.”

A third person suggested: “Handful of bird seed by their cars. Then when the birds start feeding regular, seed their cars too. Walk by toss handfuls.”
