Prince Andrew has made headlines again this week after a new scandal has emerged surrounding his association with the late convicted paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein. Over the weekend, an email sent by Prince Andrew on February 28, 2011 to Epstein resurfaced and proved that he lied in his BBC Newsnight interview in 2019, when he claimed he ended contact with Epstein in December 2010.
In the email, which was sent a day after a photograph of the Duke and Virginia Giuffre, who accused Andrew of sexual assault, was shared, Andrew told Epstein: “We are in this together.” Andrew has always vehemently denied the claims made by the late Ms Giuffre, who died by suicide earlier this year
The email, which has been seen by The Sun, also shows the prince telling Epstein: “I’m just as concerned for you! Don’t worry about me! It would seem we are in this together and will have to rise above it.”
The Prince also reportedly wrote to Epstein, from his official email address, “keep in close touch” and “we’ll play some more soon!!!!”
While the Duke has not yet addressed this, one royal expert thinks this makes the prince look “very, very bad”.
In a four-word verdict, royal expert and author Ingrid Seward said that Andrew is now at “the point of no return”.
She told The Sun: “I’m afraid this looks very, very bad for Andrew. It’s a small but hugely damning email. By getting caught in this lie, he has put one foot in the mire and slipped and got his whole body in the muck.”
She continued: “If it was his contention that he had never met Virginia, or indeed that the infamous image was a creation, then surely he would have said something straight away?”
“This is the point of no return for Andrew”, she added. “The lifeless tentacles of Epstein’s reputation are ruinous to many people and I can’t see a way back from this.”
Another royal expert said this new scandal is a “hammer blow” to Andrew’s reputation.
The Duke of York was contacted by Express.co.uk for comment.
