The UK is bracing to experience brutal cold conditions in a few days as the latest weather maps show temperatures plunging as low as -3C. The freezing weather is expected to hit the country on Thursday, October 23, according to the maps, leaving many areas of the country shivering.

According to WXCharts weather maps generated on October 12 using Met Desk data, the chilly conditions will begin to swiftly enter the country at the midnight of October 23, with initially only areas around Fort William experiencing the coldest conditions. However, as the day moves on, the cold conditions will begin to expand and other areas such as Portree and Glencoe will see the mercury hitting -3C, the maps suggest.

Edinburgh, Inverness, Wick, Aberdeen and Glasgow will see the temperature levels hovering around -1 and 0C by 12pm, according to the charts.

Other areas such as Newcastle, Middlesbrough, York, and Yorkshire Dales may experience the cold conditions with temperatures around 0 and 1C during the day.

However, even the southern areas in the country will see the mercury levels dropping to single digits with parts of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leicester, Gloucester experiencing 3 and 4C, according to the maps.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast between October 17 and 26 reads: “High pressure is expected to dominate the UK weather at the start of this period.

“Whilst a little rain and drizzle is likely in parts of the southeast and north, mainly over the higher ground, much of the UK will be predominantly dry.

“Cloud amounts will be variable but often large, although there will be some spells of sunshine. There are likely to be some fog patches overnight, slowly clearing through the morning.

“Temperatures are likely to be close to normal for the time of year overall.

“During the second half of this period, there are signs that the general pattern will shift with low pressure systems probably moving in from the west in some fashion. However, details of any more unsettled weather are still very uncertain.”

This Evening and Tonight:

After a settled evening, it will be a largely dry night with clearest spells in the west. Turning cloudier from the east with hill fog. Chilly with some patchy fog under clearest skies, mainly across Scotland and northern England.

Monday:

Any early fog clearing, then rather cloudy with sunshine limited to northern England and much of Scotland. Cloud thick enough for drizzle in places. Feeling cool underneath the cloud.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

High pressure remains in charge, generally cloudy but staying largely dry. A few outbreaks of drizzle are possible at times, and some overnight fog patches too. Temperatures remaining near average.
