The UK does not get a lot of snow on average in comparison to many other places across the world. For those looking to get their fix of heavy and settled snow, they may have to look further afield.
According to forecasters, the UK has only around 13 days of lying snow every year on average. While the Scottish Highlands might see much more, some areas of the nation may not see any of the white stuff at all. However, some places across the world, including in Europe, see heavy downpours of snow every year.

Syracuse, New York, USA
Syracuse, an economic and educational hub in central New York, records an average of 124 inches of snowfall every year. The city has an all-time high of 192 inches in a single season and has won the Golden Snowball Award, given to the city with the most snowfall each season, an impressive 14 times.
There is so much snowfall in Syracuse because of its location downwind of Lake Ontario and the presence of the Tug Hill Plateau. Cold air from the west picks up moisture and combines with the warm lake water to drop heavy snowfall on the city.

Sapporo, Japan
The city of Sapporo, located on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, sees an average annual snowfall of 191 inches. However, temperatures reach a hot 36C during the summer months.
Sapporo became the first Asian city to host the Winter Olympics in 1972. Every February, the city holds the Snow Festival which attracts millions of people from around the world.
