Powerful Melania Trump could be Europe’s ‘secret weapon’, expert says | World | News

Melania Trump has revealed she has a direct line to Vladimir Putin amid her efforts to bring peace in Ukraine, which begs the question: could she be the secret force behind her husband? The first lady announced Friday that eight children displaced by the Russia-Ukraine war have been reunited with their families following ongoing talks with the Russian president.

She wrote to Putin in August, calling for peace in Ukraine, and had her husband hand-deliver the letter when the two met in Alaska. Speaking at the White House, Melania said that after Putin responded in writing to her letter, they established an “open channel of communication” regarding the welfare of those children. Anthony Glees, emeritus professor at the University of Buckingham, said this shows “a strength and courage” that is uncommon in her husband’s administration.

The politics expert even suggested that Europe could learn something from Melania and use her as “our secret weapon”. He told the Express: “Melania may well be Trump’s secret weapon in his struggles with Putin.

“She brings a strength and courage to the Trump presidency that should not be discounted, given the sycophants with whom Trump has this time surrounded himself.

“I believe she is one of the few, the very few, who dares speak truth unto power. We here in Europe should be doing far more to get to know Melania. She’s European like us. Let’s invite her to something nice. She could be our secret weapon, too.”

Melania also appears to have entered the spotlight more throughout the years of her husband’s presidencies. Body language expert Judi James explained the shift in Melania’s behaviour from the first to the second term.

She said the first lady went from a “shadowy presence” to a “very necessary presence in Trump’s team”, and pinpointed one thing that gives away her new status in the White House.

She said: “The biggest clue to Melania’s actual level of power and influence in the White House this term is the portrait she had done when she became First Lady for the second time.

“It shows a woman who is standing at the end of a boardroom table, looking like a CEO. Her hands are splayed and her gaze direct.

“Her choice of outfit reflects business power. She looks capable of taking over her husband’s role on The Apprentice and also capable of taking over as President.”
