Despite the UK’s seaside being largely associated with seagulls, fish and chips, and salty sea breezes, the coastland is actually rich in enchanting walks.
As well as stretching out your legs, you’ll walk through bluebell woodlands, climb rugged cliffs, take in breathtaking views and even spot puffins and seals.
It turns out you don’t have to travel abroad for adventures that await right here. We take a look at seven of the best walks along the UK coastland – saving the best till last of course.
7. Robin Hood’s Bay and Maw Wyke
On the way to Maw Wyke from Robin Hood Bay, you’ll pass Ness Point – one of the treacherous headlands along this coastline. It’s certainly not for the weak!
On the return along the Cinder Track, you’ll soak up a generous dose of panoramic views and an abundance of wildflowers.
Robin Hood’s Bay is actually a small fishing village on the Heritage Coast of the North York Moors. Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park and just five miles from Whitby, there are plenty of shorter strolls along the coastline to more adventurous rambles across the moorlands.

6. Abermawr woods and beach walk
If you wish to be transported to a magical woodland world, this might just be the walk for you. Walking along the Welsh coastland in late spring, you’ll be transported into a thriving carpet of bluebells.
Meadows, marshes, shingle beach, oaks, hazels, ashes, and songbirds add to the enchanting scenes. The storm beach has a character of its own, where low tides expose buried tree stumps – legend has it that a sudden flood drowned the forest 8,000 years ago.

5. Craster to Seahouses, Northumberland
You’ll start off at Craster, where you can try the famous smoked kippers and you’ll finish off with spotting puffins and seals. From Craster, you’ll first head to admire the ruins of 14th-century Dunstanburgh Castle.
Walking along the rugged coastline will reward you with one of the world’s most beautiful beaches at Embleton Bay – it features powdery white sand and seems to stretch for miles on end.
Just before hopping on a boat to the nearby Farne Islands, you can take a refreshing pitstop at the fishing village of Beadnall. The sleepy village hosts some lively pubs and cafes.

4. Horsey Windpump to Waxham, Norfolk
This charming walk will take you right to the home of Atlantic Seals. Just before you visit these enchanting creatures at Horsey Gap, you’ll be able to forage for blackberries in the hedgerows and trek through sand dunes.
Take note of the special rules that depend on the time of year. Between November and January, as it’s officially seal breeding season, you won’t be allowed on the beach itself. But you can still take a look down from the path above.
