With autumn weather kicking in, there’s no better time to get cosy in front of the television. You can’t miss out on this show which has been called one of the best ever made.

According to Metro, the one-season drama Chernobyl is widely-regarded as one of the “best TV shows ever made”. The HBO series was released in 2019, it stars Jessie Buckley, Jared Harris and Stellan Skarsgård. In April 1986, the city of Chernobyl in the Soviet Union suffered one of the worst nuclear disasters in the history of mankind. Consequently, many heroes put their lives on the line in the following days, weeks and months.

One person on Rotten Tomatoes said: “Definitely one of the best, most dramatic, and most considerate shows ever made.

“It managed to capture the essence of the real events perfectly. The acting and pacing were also top-notch.

“It shows that real life is the best inspiration for stories, and that conscious depiction of it, while avoiding cheap tropes and gimmicks, is the most rewarding course of action.”

Another penned: “A depressing masterpiece. Grabs you by the gut and never lets up. Fantastic direction, story. acting and production.”

The series has been very well reviewed with huge amounts of viewers praising the show.

Since it came out, audiences have been gripped by the miniseries and it continues to draw in new fans.

The Chernobyl disaster had huge consequences. According to Inverse, studies have found an increase in thyroid cancer, mainly due to the failure of the Soviet authorities to prevent consumption of products contaminated with short-lived radioactive iodine-131 in the weeks after the accident.

Today, the area remains a ghost town home to abandoned buildings and lingering radiation.

The area is still one of the most radioactive places on earth.
